LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN |
|
His/Her Biography |
Ludwig van Beethoven, (baptized Dec. 17, 1770, Bonn, archbishopric
of Cologne—died March 26, 1827, Vienna, Austria), German composer. Born to a
musical family, he was a precociously gifted pianist and violist. After nine
years as a court musician in Bonn, he moved to Vienna to study with Joseph
Haydn and remained there for the rest of his life. He was soon well known as
both a virtuoso and a composer, and he became the first important composer to
earn a successful living while forsaking employment in the church or court.
He uniquely straddled the Classical and Romantic eras. Rooted in the
traditions of Haydn and Mozart, his art also encompassed the new spirit of
humanism expressed in the works of German Romantic writers as well as in the
ideals of the French Revolution, with its passionate concern for the freedom
and dignity of the individual. His astonishing Third (Eroica) Symphony (1804)
was the thunderclap that announced the Romantic century, and it embodies the
titanic but rigorously controlled energy that was the hallmark of his style.
He began to lose his hearing from c. 1795; by c. 1819 he was totally deaf.
For his last 15 years he was unrivaled as the world’s most famous composer.
In musical form he was a considerable innovator, widening the scope of
sonata, symphony, concerto, and string quartet. His greatest achievement was
to raise instrumental music, hitherto considered inferior to vocal, to the
highest plane of art. His works include the celebrated 9 symphonies; 16
string quartets; 32 piano sonatas; the opera Fidelio (1805, rev. 1814); 2
masses, including the Missa Solemnis (1823); 5 piano concertos; a violin
concerto (1806); 6 piano trios; 10 violin sonatas; 5 cello sonatas; and
several concert overtures. |

LEONARDO DA VINCI |
|
His/Her Biography |
Leonardo da Vinci, (born April 15, 1452, Anchiano, Republic of
Florence—died May 2, 1519, Cloux, France), Italian Renaissance painter,
sculptor, draftsman, architect, engineer, and scientist.
The son of a landowner and a peasant, Leonardo received training
in painting, sculpture, and mechanical arts as an apprentice to Andrea del
Verrocchio. In 1482 he entered the service of the duke of Milan as “painter
and engineer.” During his 17 years in Milan, Leonardo completed six artworks,
including The Virgin of the Rocks (1483–86) and one of his most famous works,
the monumental wall painting Last Supper (1495–98) in the refectory of the
monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. About 1490 Leonardo began a project of
writing treatises on the “science of painting,” architecture, mechanics, and
anatomy. His numerous surviving manuscripts are noted for being written in a
backward script that requires a mirror to be read.
In 1502–03, as military architect and engineer for Cesare Borgia,
Leonardo helped lay the groundwork for modern cartography. During the next
five years in Florence (1503–08) he began another famous piece, the Mona Lisa
(c. 1503–19). Leonardo then returned to Milan, where he created very little
as a painter—but his scientific work flourished. In 1516, after an interlude
under Medici patronage in Rome, he entered the service of Francis I of
France; he never returned to Italy.
Though only some 17 completed paintings survive, they are
universally seen as masterpieces. The power of The Last Supper comes in part
from its masterly composition. In the Mona Lisa the features and symbolic
overtones of the subject achieve a complete synthesis. The unique fame that
Leonardo enjoyed in his lifetime and that, filtered by historical criticism,
has remained largely intact to the present day rests on his unlimited desire
for knowledge, a trait that guided all his thinking and behaviour. |

ALBERT EINSTEIN |
|
His/Her Biography |
Albert Einstein, (born March 14, 1879, Ulm, Württemberg,
Ger.—died April 18, 1955, Princeton, N.J., U.S.), German-born Swiss-U.S.
scientist. Born to a Jewish family in Germany, he grew up in Munich, and in
1894 he moved to Aarau, Switz. He attended a technical school in Zürich
(graduating in 1900) and during this period renounced his German citizenship;
stateless for some years, he became a Swiss citizen in 1901. Einstein became
a junior examiner (or clerk) at the Swiss patent office in 1902 and began producing
original theoretical work that laid many of the foundations for 20th-century
physics. He received his doctorate from the University of Zürich in 1905, the
same year he won international fame with the publication of four articles:
one on Brownian motion, which he explained in terms of molecular kinetic
energy; one on the photoelectric effect, in which he demonstrated the
particle nature of light; and two on his special theory of relativity, the
second of which included his formulation of the equivalence of mass and
energy (E = mc2). Einstein held several professorships before becoming
director of Berlin’s Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics in 1913. In 1915 he
published his general theory of relativity, which was confirmed
experimentally during a solar eclipse in 1919 with observations of the
deflection of light passing near the Sun. He received a Nobel Prize in 1921
for his work on the photoelectric effect, his work on relativity still being
controversial. For decades he sought to discover the mathematical
relationship between electromagnetism and gravitation, which he believed
would be a first step toward discovering the common laws governing the
behaviour of everything in the universe, but such a unified field theory
eluded him. His theories of relativity and gravitation represented a profound
advance over Newtonian physics and revolutionized scientific and
philosophical inquiry. He resigned his position at the Prussian Academy when
Adolf Hitler came to power and moved to Princeton, N.J., where he joined the
Institute for Advanced Study. Though a longtime pacifist, he was instrumental
in persuading Pres. Franklin Roosevelt in 1939 to initiate the Manhattan
Project for the production of an atomic bomb, a technology his own theories
greatly furthered, though he did not work on the project himself. Einstein
became a U.S. citizen in 1940 but retained his Swiss citizenship. The most
eminent scientist in the world in the postwar years, he declined an offer to
become the first prime minister of Israel and became a strong advocate for
nuclear disarmament. |

WESTLIFE |
|
His/Her Biography |
Westlife is Kian Egan, Markus Feehily (known as Mark), Nicky
Byrne, and Shane Filan. Described as one of the most successful musical
groups of all time, they originate from Sligo and Dublin in Ireland. The story of Westlife begins a long, long time ago (well, back in the 1990s!) in a town named Sligo in the west of Ireland. Three guys named Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan performed in their school musical Grease together. After their success on stage, they decided to form a band. The band’s name? Initially they were known as ‘6 as 1’, then ‘I.O.YOU’. The band released their first single in April 1999 and after more than twenty years they’re still going strong. Their number-one-charting comeback album Spectrum was released in November 2019, and their twelfth album, Wild Dreams, was released in November 2021. I.O.YOU released a single “Together Girl Forever” in Ireland in 1997. After some success, Shane Filan’s mother, Mae Filan, contacted the manager of the established Irish pop band Boyzone, Louis Walsh, to persuade him to look at the group and sign them up. Although Louis felt he didn’t have the time to manage yet another band, luckily for us, Ronan Keating (of chart-topping boyband Boyzone) stepped in. Ronan agreed to co-manage the new band with Louis, and ‘Rolo Management’ (named after Ronan and Louis) was formed. The group was now known as Westside – their name was reportedly changed by Ronan who felt that I.O.YOU was too boyband-esque. Why the name ‘Westside’? Because three of the group (Kian, Mark, and Shane) were from the west side of Ireland. Westside supported US pop group Backstreet Boys at their show in Dublin and then toured the UK and Ireland with Irish boyband Boyzone in November 1998. The band stunned audiences on the Smash Hits Tour around the UK, winning “Best New Tour Act” at the Smash Hits Awards in November 1998. Early in 1999 the group discovered a number of existing bands shared the name ‘Westside’. As a result the name of the band was changed again, this time to the name we know today – ‘Westlife‘. Westlife went on to release their first single Swear it Again in April 1999. The single went straight to the top of the British and Irish charts, becoming the biggest-selling debut single ever in Ireland. |

three Saturn Awards, a Guinness World Record and an appearance on the Forbes
30 Under 30 Europe list. Some publications have called him one of the most
popular actors of his generation. Holland's career began at age nine when he enrolled in a dancing class, where a choreographer noticed him and arranged for him to audition for a role in Billy Elliot the Musical at London's Victoria Palace Theatre. After two years of training, he secured a supporting part in 2008 and was upgraded to the title role that year, which he played until 2010. Holland made his film debut in the disaster drama The Impossible (2012) as a teenage tourist trapped in a tsunami, for which he received a London Film Critics Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year. After this, Holland decided to pursue acting as a full-time career, appearing in How I Live Now (2013) and playing historical figures in the film In the Heart of the Sea (2015) and the miniseries Wolf Hall (2015). Holland achieved international recognition playing Spider-Man/Peter Parker in six Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero films, beginning with Captain America: Civil War (2016). The following year, Holland received the BAFTA Rising Star Award and later became the youngest actor to play a title role in an MCU film in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The sequels Far From Home (2019) and No Way Home (2021) each grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, and the latter became the highest-grossing film of the year. During this period, Holland gained recognition for playing darker roles in the crime dramas The Devil All the Time (2020) and Cherry (2021). Holland has additionally directed the short film Tweet (2015) and voiced roles in computer-animated features, including Onward (2020). |

PRAMOEDYA ANANTA TOER |
|
His/Her Biography |
Pramoedya Ananta Toer was a Javanese novelist and short-story
writer who wrote his first published novel, Perburuan (1950), during a
two-year term in a Dutch prison camp. Pramoedya produced a stream of novels and short stories after
Indonesian independence, including Keluarga gerilja, Mereka jang dilumpuhkan,
Subuh, Pertjikan revolusi, and Tjerita dari Blora. His prose style
incorporated Javanese everyday speech and images. By the late 1950s Pramoedya had become sympathetic toward the
Indonesian Communist Party, and after 1958 he abandoned fiction for essays
and cultural criticism that reflect a left-wing viewpoint. By 1962 he had
become closely aligned with communist-sponsored cultural groups. As a result,
he was jailed by the army in the course of its bloody suppression of a
communist coup in 1965. During his imprisonment he wrote a series of four
historical novels that further enhanced his reputation. Two of these, Bumi
manusia (1980; This Earth of Mankind) and Anak semua bangsa (1980; Child of
All Nations), met with great critical and popular acclaim in Indonesia after
their publication, but the government subsequently banned them from
circulation, and the last two volumes of the tetralogy, Jejak langkah (1985;
Footsteps) and Rumah kaca (1988; House of Glass), had to be published abroad.
These late works comprehensively depict Javanese society under Dutch colonial
rule in the early 20th century. In contrast to Pramoedya’s earlier works,
they were written in a plain, fast-paced narrative style. |

When Maher Zain was eight years old, his Lebanese family moved to Sweden. There, he finished his education and earned his bachelor's in aeronautical engineering. He started working in Sweden's music industry after graduating from college, and in 2005 he teamed up with RedOne, a Swedish producer of Moroccan descent. Zain followed RedOne to New York in 2006 to pursue his career in the music business there, producing for artists including Kat DeLuna. Maher Zain released his debut album Thank You Allah in 2009 with
13 songs and two bonus tracks. He quickly gained a huge online following and
was the most Googled celebrity in Malaysia for that year. The album has been

ERNEST PRAKARSA |
|
His/Her Biography |
Ernest Prakasa is a multitalented figure. If we read Ernest Prakasa's bio, we will find the fact that apart from being a comedian, he is also a writer, actor, and presenter. Even though he was disappointed because he was only ranked 3rd in the SUCI Kompas TV 2012 event, his debut stand-up comedy tour entitled Merem Melek (2012) was a huge success, and his name as an Indonesian comedian skyrocketed. Ernest Prakasa is an Indonesian citizen of ethnic Chinese descent who was born and raised in Jakarta. However, being born of ethnic descent does not make the man born January 29, 1982 feel less nationalist. Being born in this country made him feel the same as his native friends. But his assumption is not in line with reality. His childhood was marked by unpleasant experiences. He admits that when he was little, it was very difficult for him to blend in with the natives. Not because he is anti-social. Or people who only want to mingle with fellow ethnic Chinese, but the indigenous people around them are difficult to approach. Even so, he wanted to mingle with them. Talking about Ernest Prakasa's profile regarding films, Meira's
husband can be said to be successful. How could it not be, initially, he only
played extra roles in the films Make Money (2013) and I Chase Love in China
(2014). So. he was made the main character in the film Ngenest The Movie (2012), which was also taken from his book of the same name. Due to his success in directing a film, the offer to act also added to the long list of films in Ernest Prakasa's profile. Until finally, he was given responsibility as a director and writer in Cek Toko Secepat (2012) and Stip dan Pencil (2017). |
